This is one of the great value malts. 10 year old delight. I also like the 14 year old — it is smoother — but this sparkles on the taste buds. It is feisty but still very complex and sophiticated. Beautiful, simply beautiful — like driving a sprightly sports car.

It’s hard to believe this is only a 10yr Single. Its a light but beautifully mature tasting whisky. Very green and heathery on the nose and yet the contrasting palate delivers a soft smooth vanillary citrus that slowly softens down to a lengthy buscuity finish — so take time between your sips to really appreciate it’s delightful length. One must perhaps appreciate a delicate assembly of flavours to appreciate this whisky but it’s by no means dull in any respect, rather very much character filled and an absolute pleasure to drink. I’d enjoy this any time of the year but if one were to place a season a warm summers night would be perfect!

This is my session dram and my go to malt. Always enjoy it. Pineapple cubes and green apple for me.

A wonderful whisky. Bottled at 46% ABV, no added coloring and un-chill filtered are all important qualities for me. It’s an excellent value for a whisky of this quality. Impressive.

Quite a harsh, medicine-like aftertaste. Not a huge fan.

First tasted A rran 10 about a year ago and is now a firm favourite with me and my brothers also.A lovely sweet and sherried flavour with the 46 abv giving it a big bold statement of intent .My bottles do not last long especially if we have guests as it is the bottle of choice in our house at the moment .Marvelous keep up the good work Arran.

Walked from Broddick to Lochranza, did the tour and bought a bottle of this and one of the cask strength. Carried on walking round Arran, with a big tot of this to look forward to at the end of each day. It was fantastic, a delicious whisky, drinking on the island it comes from.

No over powering smell or taste to this unpeated malt a bit like sweet heather near the sea, with slight oak, oily texture and leaves a slightly caustic after taste. Maybe a good malt for people new to malts or summer evenings, very easy to drink even though its 46%.

A light but very enjoyable dram was soft «lemony» citrus and vanilla on the nose and in the taste. A really good spring or summer whisky. I think people are mixing up island and islay. Islay are the taditional peated whiskies. As the name suggests, ths is from Arran

It is a strong spirit but its still easy to drink it down. Has hints of flavors, maybe lemon, vanilla and nut, to go with a little salt. Not heavy on the palate, dry, oaky.

Quite liked it, reminded me a bit of Glenmorangie — citrusy / spicey. Not usually a fan of island malts but would have it again.

The first Arran with an age statement is a light, delicate malt which finishes with a taste of orange and spice. No real ‘Island’ character — should be classed along with the better Lowlands.

Very light, citrus and vanilla flavours, with a fresh tone, ideal for spring.

I think this is a great purchase for the price range. You will not get a better whisky for the money. Buy Buy Buy!!!P.S. It is worth noting, Arran is not meant to be a peated malt so not sure what Douglas Muir is talking about!!!

If you want an island malt of this age range Bowmore, Ardbeg, Bunnahabhain and Highland Park offer expressions of more character and complexity with better value for money. I just feel that «Arran» is a bit of a gimmick. Which is a shame.

this whiskey is probably one of the best that the distillers have made for the price bracket

One of my favourites. Not a huge difference from the 12 but just that little bit smoother and rounder. I like most of the Aberlours as they do not kick back but leave a warm and soft honeyed after taste.

Still available nowadays in France, I’d bought 2 bottles of this 43% version (bottling date : June 11, 2018). It’s a real bargain. It’s not that complex but with a drop or two of Vittel the aromas emphasise.

I found a store who still had these for $80, and bought all 4. Glad I did, can’t find them for under $150 now. And let me tell you, they are wonderful. So smooth. Floral notes with vanilla and Carmel. I’ve been tasting a lot of fine scotches lately, and this is for sure one of my favorites. I give it a 93/100

I am a novice when it comes to Scotch but I am beginning to get an appreciation for the various tastes of the many different Scotches and the Abelour 16 is quite good. I highly recommend it

Phenomenal whisky for the price. The only TRULY double oak matured whisky worth the investment.

Glorious smooth raisinny taste with a long sweet subtle finish.

    27 January 2014

I purchased a bottle of this recently from TWE and have to say it is a pleasant dram but really quite one dimensional. Smooth and with a honey sweetness, not a lot more I can say really. My bottle was 40%ABV not the 43%ABV stated in the listing. Maybe this is partly responsible for the lack of depth in this whisky. Average.

The Aberlour 16yr is a genuine bargain and one that I can highly recommend. It’s nothing like the 10yr, so much richer and deeper. There is no shortage of that Speyside sherried sweetness but it doesn’t dominate and the taste is complex, balanced, fruity and long. Many say the Aberlour 10yr is a beginners whisky, I say the 16yr is a lesson everyone should learn.

    6 February 2013

For me this is an excellent Speysider, I won’t go into detailed tasting notes as I don’t want to influence the palate of the next person who tries it too much, however, I just had to mention the rum and raisin fudge and Christmas cake notes that seem to carry right through from nose to finish, fantastic! The rest I will leave up to you to decide.

Previous Islay loyal, this changes the game. Try with a Padron 45 or 46. You in heaven

The richness in flavors blew me away, savor it at the back of your tongue and you’ll think you’re in heaven.
Haven’t found a better whisky so far.

superb stuff, really nice and spicy. I never understand why malt »snobs» give aberlour a miss!

  • Mikko

    18 March 2011

One of the smoothest deliveries in single malts. A very silky, honeyed and fruity mouth feel. The finish is long and smooth unlike 10 year old. Still, this one loses some of the amazing bourbon-sherry duality of Aberlour 10 year old.

    19 August 2009

This is my all time favorite single malt. I couldnt taste it at the time as i was at work but passing through back to falkirk. Im glad i bought it and waited till i got home. WOW i wasnt disapointed. What a whisky. I’ll be back for more very soon.

  • Whisky Mike

    3 March 2009

A much more rounded version of the 12 year double cask matured. The extra four years bring out a more honey and floral taste. The sherry overtone that was dominant in the 12 year old is now a background player at best, leaving a soothing feel on the palate that finishes with a spiced fruitiness kissed with honey

I’m still a novice in the whisky tasting, compared to some of the reviewers but thoroughly enjoyed this whisky smooth, a nice taste of vanilla and toffee as advertised.

Malt, burnt coffee beans, pepper & a fantastic sweet finish on the throat – superb.

    23 June 2018

A pleasant entry level single malt. For me, it does everything you expect from a whisky in its class. I found that the nose was the main event but the development on the palate was a little thin. But for the price tag, you can’t go far wrong.

Creamy and comforting. I bought it in summer and will be waiting to taste it in proper winter as i’m sure it will taste even better. Overall a very good whisky. Plus the price is very good.

Shocked at how good this is for what it can be picked up for. Not going to rip up any trees but nothing to not like here. More of an every day dram.

Nothing special but decent.. nowhere close to the 12

    16 November 2017

I am a fan of the 12 year old so I wanted to taste the 10.
it is defintely a good entry level scotch.
has a great color and a good nose.
    a great sweet taste.
the only slight negative if any it doesn’t have a long finish it doesn’t linger to much after having drunk it and it goes down your throat.
but still overall a excellent entry level whisky or for people who like sweet whisky.

Varies far too much from bottle to bottle. I’ve had absolute cracking bottles of Aberlour 10 and I’ve also had terrible ones. Great whisky when you have a good bottle but too inconsistent to be a go to single malt. OK place to start if you can pick it up for 20 notes.

A great whisky for the price a soft sherry taste all the way through . Always have a bottle at home . An everyday whisky.

    7 January 2016

Good whiskey, lots of character but might be a bit heavy on the nose for some. Overall, i really like rhis whiskey, 12 years are a lot refined but, for the price i would say its a good deal. My all time favourite as a budget whiskey cant go wrong.

As a non-whiskey drinker, I found this the best of all I have tried. ( Bought as part of an introduction to whiskey pack) I would recommend to any other non- whiskey drinker, as a gateway whiskey. That said, it does lack a pinch of character though, especially in the aftertaste.

Last time I tasted (10/2014) Aberlour 10 yo, it was really badly sulfured. They should never had that batch leave the distillery. It»s sad because 10 yo has always been a great malt. The sulfur problem is a big issue in the whisky industry, because of growing volumes and lack of quality sherry casks. Distilleries never talk about it, fortunately we have Jim.

Not a bad Dram at all. The youngess does imditaly hit you on the nose and the taste , but 2 Teaspoons of water and this Dram really does come to life. Delicious and sweet the Raisin and Honey are unmistakable. Fantastic purchase for the price.

Tastes like a Robert Frost poem…after a sip, my mind can only picture late fall/early winter walks home to a little cabin in the woods. Comforting, sweet, gentle…no doubt a great choice newcomers to the world of single malt whisky like myself. Lots of fruit and vanilla, with just a tiny bite near the end. Miles above Glenfiddich and Glenlivet in my humble opinion.
